Operational Photographs
Group Photography taken by Army personnel in Theatre
In recent years soldiers have been bringing back reasonably good quality photographs of small groups from theatre, and we have been able to digitally enhance the image, and produce copies framed with a border including titles, names crests etc to their requirements.
The Traditional Group Photograph
For operational, logistical and security reasons it is not always possible to have the traditional group photograph taken in front of a meaningful background.
One way of getting around this is, first of all photograph the backdrop of your choice, and then in the relative safety of your camp, photograph your group, i.e. company, battery, squadron, troop, platoon etc, and upon your return to the UK we will compose and enhance the image, super-impose the backdrop and produce a framed sample with title, crests, names etc.
Tips when photographing the background.
When photographing the background, it is best to use a normal lens and photograph the backdrop in two or three sections, and we will join them together to form a panoramic image.
Tips when photographing the group.
When photographing the group, keep the group as compact as possible, close in and fill the screen with the group. By doing so we will get a more powerful image, remember you do not want to waste pixels at this stage by framing the background, as we will super-impose one for you.
Last but not least, remember to align the group relative to the direction of the sun and shadows as per the backdrop you intend to use.
